Based in Zagreb and founded in 1989 under the name “Zagal-Zagreb Airlines”, Croatia Airlines is the Republic of Croatia’s national airline and flag carrier. Originally a cargo airline, the carrier changed its name to Croatia Airlines in 1990 and first began domestic passenger flights between Split and Zagreb in 1991 Since those early years its route network and fleet have grown and Croatia Airlines now offers services to a wide range of European destinations including many popular spots in Croatia and throughout the Adriatic coast. Furthermore, in 2004 the airline became a member of Star Alliance, allowing customers the benefits of the prominent air alliance’s frequent-flyer scheme as well as its code-sharing possibilities.

Croatia Airlines Check-in

Online check-in is available from 23 hours to one hour before the flight is scheduled to depart. If checking-in at the airport, Croatia Airlines advises passengers to arrive no later than two hours before departure for international services and 90 minutes before the flight for domestic Croatian services.

Croatia Airlines baggage allowance

Hand luggage: each Economy-Class passenger may bring one item of baggage with a maximum weight of 8kg (17lbs) and dimensions not larger than 55 x 40 x 23cm (21 x 15 x 9in).

Checked: The free allowance for Economy flyers on domestic flights is 15kg. On international services the allowance is 23kg. Other classes of traveller (frequent flyers, seamen for example) have higher allowances.

Excess: overweight fees start at €50 ($70).

Pre-arranged seating

Families may pre-reserve their seats by calling Reservations or emailing contact@croatiaairlines.hr. Other passengers may select seats during check-in.

Passenger change details

Charges may apply when making changes to bookings, especially those in lower fare classes or promotional fares. Contact Reservations for more specific information.

Child fares

On a London-Zagreb flight infants fly for about 30 per cent of the adult fare. There's a discount of about 10 per cent for children aged between 2 and 11.

Senior fares

There's no discount for older travellers.

Pets

Small dogs and cats may travel in the passenger cabin. However, this depends on whether or not it is permitted by the pet's destination. Animals heavier than 8kg are transported in the hold. Charges apply; contact the carrier for details.

Carrying musical instruments

Small musical instruments may be carried as part of your hand luggage allowance. A seat may be booked for a large or delicate instrument, which can be arranged by contacting Reservations.

In-flight service

On international flights, Economy Class passengers are provided with cold breakfasts and lunches such as sandwiches. On domestic flights within Croatia, Economy Class passengers will be provided with hot and cold drinks and traditional Croatian biscuits.

Air miles

Miles & More. Four tiers of membership are available: Miles & More Member (entry level: 1 mile), Frequent Traveller (35,000 status miles in a year), Senator (100,000/130,000 status miles in a year) and HON Circle Member (600,000 HON Circle miles earned over two years). Miles can be earned and spent through flying with Croatia Airlines and its Star Alliance airline partners and also as a customer of non-airline partners including hotels and car rental companies.

In-flight magazine

The airline’s in-flight magazine is named Croatia. It is published quarterly, with new issues in March, June, September and December, and can be read online. The magazine is published both in Croatian and English, and it contains a range of travel and entertainment content as well as articles relating to the culture and history of Croatia.

Croatia Airlines is a member of the Star Alliance, the world’s largest airline alliance. Other members include Brussels Airlines, Continental Airlines, Air China, Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, United Airlines and Thai Airways.
