Delta Air Lines traces its history back to 1924 and the world's first aerial crop dusting company. Delta Air Lines Check-in

Online check-in allows passengers to check-in between 24 hours and one hour (30 minutes for domestic US flights) before the flight. Mobile check-in (for PDA, web-enabled phone or PC) is available within 24 hours of the scheduled departure time too. There are airport kiosks and, at about 100 airports in the US, kerbside check-in is available. 

Recommended check-in times for flights to the US is 75 minutes. Passengers should be at the boarding gate 60 minutes before departure.

Delta Air Lines baggage allowance

Hand luggage: one bag is permitted, small enough to fit under a seat or in the overhead locker. A personal item, such as a handbag or overcoat, is also allowed.

Checked: one bag is permitted free of charge on Europe to US and Canada flights (Economy Class). A second bag costs 60 USD/CAD/EUR if checked-in online or 75 USD/CAD/EUR at the airport. For travel within the US and Canada checking-in one bag costs $25 USD/CAD and the second checked bag costs $35 USD/CAD. Other classes of travellers - BusinessElite, First, Business-Class passengers, members of SkyMiles and US Military Personnel – have more generous baggage allowances. 

Excess: Oversized, overweight or extra bags will be charged a fee. This depends on the route. For example, for flights between Europe and the US or Canada, the overweight bag fee is 75 EUR/USD/CAD for bags weighing between 23 and 32kg. Fees for oversized luggage are - for travel between Europe and the US or Canada - 175 EUR/USD/CAD for bags measuring 161-203cm.

Passenger change details

Depends on the fare type. Refundable tickets may be changed, but some tickets issued via some third-party websites and travel agents are not eligible for any changes. There may be a service fee and/or difference in fare to be paid. Again, this will depending on the fare rules. For travel within the US, the fee is $150 for Delta flights. For travel outside the US, the change fee is about $250, but can vary based on location and type of fare. Changes are usually permitted only to the return portion of an international itinerary.

Child fares

On international flights, the fare for infant flyers (on an adult's lap) is about 10 per cent of the adult fare plus any international taxes and surcharges. There may be discounted child fares. There are no discounts for infants or children child fares within the US.

Pets

Pets must go as cargo under the UK Pet Travel Scheme.

Carrying musical instruments

Musical instruments can be carried as checked, carry-on or cabin-seat baggage. Guitars and other smaller musical instruments, such as violins, will be accepted as the free carry-on baggage item, but if there's not enough space, the item must be checked-in and a fee will be applied. The costs of a seat for a musical instrument vary and Delta recommends contacting Reservations for these fees.

In-flight service

Complimentary meal and drinks service on most international flights lasting six hours or longer. On flights of up to 90 minutes, complimentary peanuts, pretzels or cookies and soft drinks are served. If the flight lasts longer than 90 minutes, passengers are offered complimentary snacks and can purchase items from the EATS menu.
