Japan Airlines Check-in

Web check-in, self check-in (via machines) and counter check-in are all available. International web check-in service is available from 72 hours up to one hour before the scheduled flight departure time. Direct Boarding is available for flyers departing from London. Select seats, print your own boarding pass, check your luggage at the Fast Baggage Drop counter and go straight to the gate.

Japan Airlines baggage allowance

Carry-on: one piece of cabin baggage weighing up to 10kg and measuring no more than 115cm (45in).

Checked: Economy-Class and Premium-Economy travellers may check-in two pieces of luggage, weighing up to 23kg each. Infant flyers have an allowance of one piece of luggage weighing up to 23kg. Executive and First-Class passengers may check-in 96kg. JMB FLY ON members may stow a massive 128kg of luggage.

Excess: on flights to and from Japan, Asia, India, Oceania, Hawaii, North/Central/South America, Europe, Middle East, Africa the charge per extra piece of luggage is $150 (US) (15,000yen). Overweight pieces - more than 23kg but less than 32kg - cost $60 (6,000 yen) per piece. A piece of luggage that weighs more than 32kg but less than 45kg is charged at $450 (45,000 yen).

Passenger change details

Making a change to a reservation depends on the fare class and can't be done online for international flights. Contact Japan Airlines Reservations. If you are flying in Japan, itineraries may be changed via the View My Reservations tab on the homepage.

Child fares

Infants fly for 10 per cent of the adult fare on flights from London to Tokyo, children (2-11) travel for about 75 per cent of the adult fare. JAL's child services are excellent. Disposable nappies and meals are available (reservations required) as well as bassinets and baby seats. A toy is given on board and picture books may be borrowed. There's a free baby stroller service at several airports - Narita, Kansai, Chubu Centrair and Komatsu in Japan and London Heathrow, Frankfurt, New Delhi and Jakarta.

Japan Airlines, headquartered in Tokyo, is the national carrier for Japan and one of the largest airline operators in Asia. In each class, JAL provides a choice of Japanese or western foods and drinks. Meals for babies and children are available along with other services. JAL’s onboard entertainment system on Boeing 777-200ER, 777-300ER and 767-300ER aircraft (London routes included) is called MAGIC-III. Movies, TV, audio channels and games are shown.

The airline's frequent flyer programme is called JAL Mileage Bank.
