Located northeast of Oklahoma City on Route 66, Tulsa is the second largest city of the state and a good starting point for exploring green country. The city was founded 1836 under a sturdy oak tree - the tree still stands at 18-th and Cheyenne Str. The city changed a lot when in 1901 oil was discovered. The city grew rapidly and many of its monuments date from the beginning of the 20-th century. This means you'll find some great Art Deco architecture. The oil boom also inspired the nouveau riche to collect art and the city know houses a few nationally renowned museums, such as the Philbrook Museum of Art. Tulsa is quite a cosmopolitan town. Check out the Gilcrease Museum, the Philbrook Museum, the Tulsa Zoo, and Oklahoma's Jazz Hall of Fame. Other unique attractions worth a stop include the Elsing Museum, Ida Dennie Willis Museum of Miniatures, Dolls & Toys, Tulsa Air and Space Center and the Fenster Museum of Jewish Art. Cherry Street and Utica Square are the most lively part of town. Many quaint shops and boutiques as well as bars and restaurants are to be found there.
